A clothing label that’s Rachel Bilson-approved.
You’d never guess that the designer behind MYNE was the same person putting together outfits on the set of The Last Samurai; the label’s silk dresses and fringed tops are a far cry from the body armor in the Tom Cruise-helmed war flick. But as an on-set wardrobe stylist, 27-year-old Ashley Ann learned just what it takes to put together a complete, cohesive outfit.
Since launching her own label in 2007, she’s focused on creating a collection that is as laid-back cool as the L.A. girls who have been spotted in her pieces (like NYLON cover girl Rachel Bilson). There are carefree tops, flirty dresses, and even a carefully draped evening dress for those times when a pair of jeans just won’t cut it.
Part of MYNE’s appeal may lie in just how wearable the pieces are; Ashley checks to make sure every piece she designs would work with what she’s already got in her closet. Which, for you, means investing in future outfits, not just buying random separates.
As for her inspiration, Ashley didn’t need to look much further than herself. “I am usually a pretty upbeat and cheerful person, so I tend to gravitate towards prints and colors,” she explains. “For spring ’09, I just had this vision of a collision of colors. I try to let the print carry the piece with a simple body.”
